PSC Sets Intervention Deadline in Missouri-American Water Company Case

JEFFERSON CITY---Missouri-American Water Company (MAWC) has filed an application with the Missouri Public Service Commission seeking a certificate of convenience and necessity (CCN) to install, own, acquire, operate and maintain a water and sewer system in and around the City of Stewartsville, Missouri, located in DeKalb and Clinton Counties.

According to the application, MAWC proposes to purchase all of the water and sewer utility assets of the currently unregulated City of Stewartsville system. On November 2, 2021, an election was held on the sale of the City of Stewartsville system to MAWC. Ninety percent of the voters of the City of Stewartsville voted in favor of the sale.

MAWC proposes to provide water service pursuant to the existing rates currently applicable to MAWC’s St. Joseph service area until such time as the rates are modified according to law. MAWC proposes to provide sewer service pursuant to the existing rates currently applicable to MAWC’s Trimble service area until such time as the rates are modified according to law.

Applications to intervene and participate in this case must be filed no later than June 10, 2022, with the Secretary of the Missouri Public Service Commission, P.O. Box 360, Jefferson City, Missouri 65102-0360, or by using the Commission’s Electronic Filing and Information System (EFIS) at psc.mo.gov.

MAWC provides water service to approximately 470,000 customers in Missouri. It also provides sewer service to approximately 16,500 customers in the state. According to the application, the City of Stewartsville currently serves approximately 350 water accounts and approximately 350 sewer accounts.
