PSC Grants Missouri-American Water Company CCN Request

JEFFERSON CITY---The Missouri Public Service Commission has granted Missouri American Water Company (MAWC) a certificate of convenience and necessity (CCN) to install, own, acquire, operate and maintain a water and sewer system in Pettis County, in the Monsees Lake Estates Subdivision, near Sedalia, Missouri.

MAWC proposes to purchase all of the water and sewer utility assets of the Monsees Lake Estates Subdivision. The Monsees Lake Estates Subdivision Homeowners Association, which is the owner and operator of the water and sewer system, overwhelmingly approved selling those assets to MAWC. Approval occurred in an October 11, 2020, Monsees Lake Estates Subdivision Homeowners Association vote. On November 16, 2020, MAWC entered into a purchase agreement with the Monsees Lake Estates Homeowners Association.

MAWC proposes to use the Monsees Lake Estates Subdivision’s current water and sewer rates ($35.30 per month for water service and $58.00 per month for sewer service) until those rates are changed by the Public Service Commission. On July 1, 2022, MAWC filed water and sewer rate cases with the Public Service Commission (WR-2022-0303 & SR-2022-0304), in which MAWC rates, including Monsees’ rates, will be reviewed.

The Commission approved the CCN determining: 1) There is a need for the service; 2) MAWC is qualified to provide the proposed service; 3) MAWC has the financial ability to provide the service; 4) MAWC’s proposal is economically feasible; and 5) The service promotes the public interest.

MAWC provides water service to approximately 474,000 customers in Missouri. It also provides sewer service to approximately 16,500 customers in the state. There are approximately 60 water and sewer customers in the Monsees Lake Estates Subdivision.
