PSC Approves Water System Transfer to Liberty Utilities
JEFFERSON CITY---The Missouri Public Service Commission has approved an application authorizing the transfer of water system assets from Franklin County Water Company, Inc. (Franklin County) to Liberty Utilities (Missouri Water) LLC d/b/a Liberty Utilities. The transfer and acquisition of water assets from Franklin County near St. Clair, Missouri, will allow Liberty Utilities to provide water to approximately 190 customers in the area known as “Lake Saint Clair”. Current water rates will remain the same as part of the transfer approved by the Commission.
The Commission also granted Liberty Utilities a certificate of convenience and necessity (CCN) to construct, install, own, operate and maintain water systems within the Franklin County service area. The Commission determined: 1) There is a need for the service; 2) Liberty Utilities is qualified to provide the proposed service; 3) Liberty Utilities has the financial ability to provide the service; 4) Liberty Utilities’ proposal is economically feasible; and, 5) The service promotes the public interest.
“Liberty Utilities greater size and its ability to gain access to the financial resources necessary to maintain or improve service will benefit customers currently served by the much smaller Franklin County,” the Commission stated.
Liberty Utilities currently serves approximately 3,300 water and/or sewer customers in Missouri.
