PSC Approves Missouri-American Water Company
Request to Operate a Sewer System in Cole County

JEFFERSON CITY---The Missouri Public Service Commission has approved a request filed by the Missouri-American Water Company (MAWC) which sought Commission authority and a certificate of convenience and necessity (CCN) to install, own, operate and maintain a sewer system in and around Taos, Missouri (Cole County). MAWC intends to purchase substantially all of the sewer system assets of the currently unregulated Taos municipal system which serves approximately 421 sewer customers.

MAWC will provide sewer service pursuant to the rates charged by the City of Taos until such time as the rates are modified according to law.

The Commission granted the CCN determining: 1) There is a need for the service; 2) MAWC is qualified to provide the proposed service; 3) MAWC has the financial ability to provide the service; 4) MAWC’s proposal is economically feasible; and 5) The service promotes the public interest.

MAWC provides water service to approximately 470,000 customers and sewer service to approximately 15,000 customers in Missouri.
