PSC Approves Agreement In S. K. & M.
Water And Sewer Company Rate Cases

JEFFERSON CITY---The Missouri Public Service Commission has approved an agreement in water and sewer rate cases filed by S.K. & M. Water and Sewer Company (SK&M) which authorizes the company to increase annual water operating revenues by approximately $119,102 and annual sewer operating revenues by approximately $81,058, effective July 5, 2019.

The agreement approved by the Commission was submitted by the Staff of the Missouri Public Service Commission and SK&M.  The Office of the Public Counsel (OPC) did not oppose the agreement.  OPC is a separate state agency which represents the general public in cases before the Commission.

As part of the agreement approved by the Commission, SK&M will become the first Commission regulated small water and sewer company to implement a special fund to make improvements to its system necessitated by environmental regulations.

Under the Environmental Improvement Contingency Fund (EICF), revenues collected from customers must be recorded by the utility company and placed into a Commission-approved account which is separate from all other utility accounts, for the explicit purpose of regulatory review and tracking.  Funds held in the EICF account will only be disbursed to pay for a list of necessary improvements approved during a rate case.

On November 27, 2018, SK&M filed water and sewer rate cases with the Missouri Public Service Commission seeking to increase annual water operating revenues by approximately $200,000 and annual sewer operating revenues by approximately $100,000.

For a residential customer using 3,600 gallons of water a month, the monthly water rate will increase from $28.04 to $36.01.  Under the agreement approved by the Commission, the monthly sewer rate for residential customers will increase from $34.60 a month to $47.87 a month.

SK&M provides service to approximately 302 water customers and 156 sewer customers in Perry County near Perryville, Missouri.
