PSC Approves Agreement Granting Missouri-American Water Company's
Request to Purchase City of Stewartsville System
JEFFERSON CITY---The Missouri Public Service Commission has approved an agreement which grants Missouri-American Water Company (MAWC) a certificate of convenience and necessity (CCN) to provide water and sewer service in and around the City of Stewartsville, located in DeKalb and Clinton counties.
To provide water and sewer service to the area, MAWC proposes to purchase all of the water and sewer utility assets of the City of Stewartsville system. On November 2, 2021, voters approved the sale of the City of Stewartsville systems to MAWC.
The Commission approved the CCN determining: 1) There is a need for the service; 2) MAWC is qualified to provide the proposed service; 3) MAWC has the financial ability to provide the service; 4) MAWC’s proposal is economically feasible; and 5) The service promotes the public interest.
MAWC has proposed charging water customers a $9.00 per month customer charge plus $6.2469 per 1,000 gallons of water used and $44.03 a month for sewer service. These rates would remain in effect until they are modified according to law. MAWC currently has a water and sewer rate increase case before the Missouri Public Service Commission.
MAWC provides water service to approximately 475,000 customers in Missouri. It also provides sewer service to approximately 18,000 customers in the state. The City of Stewartsville serves approximately 357 water accounts and 354 sewer accounts.
