JEFFERSON CITY---Missouri-American Water Company (MAWC) has filed an application with the Missouri Public Service Commission seeking a certificate of convenience and necessity (CCN) to install, own, acquire, construct, operate, manage and maintain a water system in and around the City of DeKalb, Missouri (Buchanan County).
To provide service to the proposed area, MAWC states it will purchase the currently non-Commission regulated water system of the City of DeKalb and a long-term lease for its water tower.
In the application, MAWC proposes to provide water service pursuant to the existing rates currently applicable to all MAWC’s Missouri service areas outside of St. Louis County until such time as the rates are modified according to law.
According to the application, voters approved the sale of the City of DeKalb water system in an election held on November 7, 2023.
Applications to intervene and participate in this case must be filed no later than
July 9, 2024, with the Secretary of the Missouri Public Service Commission, P.O. Box 360, Jefferson City, Missouri 65102-0360, or by using the Commission’s Electronic Filing and Information System (EFIS) at

MAWC provides water service to approximately 484,000 customers in Missouri. It also provides sewer service to approximately 24,000 customers in the state. According to the application, the City of DeKalb currently serves approximately 100 water accounts.
