Spire Missouri to Serve Expanded Area in Newton County

JEFFERSON CITY---The Missouri Public Service Commission has granted Spire Missouri, Inc. (Spire) a certificate of convenience and necessity (CCN) to construct, own, operate and maintain a natural gas distribution system providing natural gas service in Newton County, Missouri. The CCN will be a further expansion of Spire’s existing certificated area, and would serve additional commercial and residential customers that are currently not being served in the proposed service area. Approval of the application was subject to certain conditions recommended by the Public Service Commission Staff.

The Commission approved the application determining: 1) There is a need for the service; 2) Spire is qualified to provide the proposed service; 3) Spire has the financial ability to provide the service; 4) Spire’s proposal is economically feasible; and 5) The service promotes the public interest.

“Based on the application and Staff’s recommendation, the Commission concludes that the factors for granting a certificate of convenience and necessity have been satisfied,” said the Commission. “The Commission further finds Spire’s provision of gas service to the area, as described in its application and subject to the conditions recommended by Staff, and not objected to by Spire, is necessary and convenient for the public service. Thus, the Commission will grant Spire a CCN to provide gas service within the area set out in the application, subject to the conditions recommended by Staff.”

Spire provides natural gas service to approximately 1.2 million natural gas customers in Missouri.
