PSC Grants Spire Application to Sell and Transfer
Certain Assets to Saint Louis University
JEFFERSON CITY---The Missouri Public Service Commission has approved a request for authority to sell and transfer certain natural gas assets owned and operated by Spire Missouri Inc. (“Spire”) to Saint Louis University (SLU).
On May 8, 2020, Spire filed an amended application to sell and transfer to SLU five individual segments - a total of 5,108 feet - of natural gas pipeline that will enable SLU to own a gas distribution system and purchase gas at wholesale rates. The assets will be used by SLU only to service the SLU campus in the Spire East service territory. Spire will sell the assets to SLU for $93,470, which reflects the cost to cut and cap the gas mains. SLU will assume responsibility for maintenance of the assets, and current safety and reporting regulations.
The Public Service Commission Staff (Staff) recommended approval of the sale and transfer of assets, with conditions, and subject to the terms and conditions in the proposed bills of sale.
“Upon Staff’s recommendation in support of the amended application with conditions, the Commission concludes that the application is not detrimental to the public interest and should be approved,” said the Commission.
Spire East provides natural gas service in eastern Missouri to customers in St. Louis and multiple counties.
