PSC Grants Liberty Request to Expand Certificated Area in Platte County

JEFFERSON CITY---The Missouri Public Service Commission has granted The Empire District Gas Company d/b/a Liberty a certificate of convenience and necessity (CCN) to construct, own, operate and maintain a natural gas distribution system providing natural gas service in Platte County. The CCN will be a further expansion of the Company’s existing certificated area.

The CCN will allow Liberty to serve a new development known as Logistics Park in Platte County. This area is adjacent to existing service territory served by Liberty.

The Commission approved the application determining: 1) There is a need for the service; 2) Liberty is qualified to provide the proposed service; 3) Liberty has the financial ability to provide the service; 4) Liberty’s proposal is economically feasible; and 5) The service promotes the public interest.

“Based on the verified pleadings, the Commission finds the application for a certificate of convenience and necessity to provide gas service meets the above listed criteria,” said the Commission. “The application will be granted.”

Liberty provides service to approximately 43,300 natural gas customers in the Missouri counties of Andrew, Atchison, Chariton, Cooper, Grundy, Henry, Holt, Howard, Johnson, Lafayette, Linn, Livingston, Morgan, Nodaway, Pettis, Platte, Ray, Saline and Vernon.
