PSC Approves Spire Request to Purchase
City of Oronogo Natural Gas System

JEFFERSON CITY---The Missouri Public Service Commission has granted Spire Missouri, Inc. (Spire) a certificate of convenience and necessity (CCN) to construct, own, operate and maintain a natural gas distribution system providing natural gas service in and around the City of Oronogo, in Jasper County. The Commission also approved Spire’s request to acquire the natural gas assets of the
City of Oronogo. The CCN will be a further expansion of Spire’s existing certificated area.

According to the application, the citizens of Oronogo approved the sale of the city’s natural gas distribution system to Spire on November 2, 2021.

The Commission approved the application determining: 1) There is a need for the service; 2) Spire is qualified to provide the proposed service; 3) Spire has the financial ability to provide the service; 4) Spire’s proposal is economically feasible; and 5) The service promotes the public interest.

“There is a need for the service, as the Oronogo customers approved the sale and desire continued natural gas service,” said the Commission. “In addition, Spire intends to replace aging infrastructure and bring Oronogo’s natural gas distribution system into compliance with existing and new industry standards.”

Spire provides natural gas service to approximately 1.19 million natural gas customers in the City of St. Louis as well as the Missouri counties of Andrew, Barry, Barton, Bates, Buchanan, Butler, Carroll, Cass, Cedar, Christian, Clay, Clinton, Cooper, Crawford, Dade, DeKalb, Franklin, Greene, Henry, Howard, Iron, Jackson, Jasper, Jefferson, Johnson, Lafayette, Lawrence, Madison, McDonald, Moniteau, Newton, Pettis, Platte, Ray, Saline, Stone, St. Charles, St. Francois, Ste.
