Fuel Adjustment Charge to Change for Evergy Missouri West Customers

JEFFERSON CITY---The Missouri Public Service Commission has approved a filing made by Evergy Missouri West, Inc. d/b/a Evergy Missouri West to adjust the fuel and purchased power adjustment charge (FAC) on the bills of its electric customers.

Evergy Missouri West made two filings with the Missouri Public Service Commission. In its first filing (ER-2022-0005), Evergy Missouri West proposed to adjust the FAC to reflect changes in its fuel and purchased power costs for the six month period of December 2020 through May 2021, less an adjustment for what Evergy Missouri West stated are “extraordinary costs” incurred as a result of the mid-February 2021 cold weather event known as Winter Storm Uri. The second filing was Evergy Missouri West’s FAC true-up (EO-2022-0004).

For a residential customer using 1,000 kWh (kilowatt-hours) of electricity a month, the FAC will increase by approximately $1.13 a month, from a current FAC of approximately $0.81 a month to an FAC of approximately $1.94 a month. This change is scheduled to take effect on September 1, 2021.

Evergy Missouri West is seeking authorization to track and defer for future recovery in a regulatory asset “extraordinary costs” related to Winter Storm Uri in a separate case (Case No. EU-2021-0283).

Evergy Missouri West provides electric service to approximately 347,400 customers in the Missouri counties of Andrew, Atchison, Barton, Bates, Benton, Buchanan, Carroll, Cass, Cedar, Clay, Clinton, Dade, Daviess, DeKalb, Gentry, Grundy, Harrison, Henry, Holt, Jackson, Johnson, Lafayette, Livingston, Mercer, Nodaway, Pettis, Platte, Ray, St. Clair, Vernon and Worth.
