Change in Evergy Missouri West FAC to Take Effect in March

JEFFERSON CITY---The Missouri Public Service Commission has approved a filing by Evergy Missouri West, Inc. d/b/a Evergy Missouri West to adjust the fuel adjustment clause (FAC) charge on the bills of its electric customers.

Evergy Missouri West made two filings with the Missouri Public Service Commission. In its first filing (ER-2024-0205), Evergy Missouri West proposed to adjust the FAC to reflect changes in its fuel and purchased power costs for the six month period of June through November 2023. The second filing was Evergy Missouri West’s FAC true-up (EO-2024-0204).

For a residential customer using 1,000 kWh (kilowatt-hours) of electricity a month, the FAC will increase by approximately $4.28 a month. This change is scheduled to take effect on March 1, 2024.

The FAC tariff allows the company to pass increases or decreases in its net fuel and purchased power costs to customers outside of a general rate case.

The FAC allows the company to recover most – up to 95 percent – of its costs, but not all, to encourage conservation and prudence in fuel use by the company. Any charges resulting from the fuel adjustment clause must appear in a separate category on customers’ bills.

Fuel adjustment charges are intended to help companies deal with volatility in fuel pricing. The FAC tariff requires regular adjustments to reflect changes in prices the company has incurred for fuel and for wholesale power purchased to serve customers.

Evergy Missouri West provides electric service to approximately 340,300 customers in the Missouri counties of Andrew, Atchison, Barton, Bates, Benton, Buchanan, Carroll, Cass, Cedar, Clay, Clinton, Dade, Daviess, DeKalb, Gentry, Grundy, Harrison, Henry, Holt, Jackson, Johnson, Lafayette, Livingston, Mercer, Nodaway, Pettis, Platte, Ray, St. Clair, Vernon and Worth.
