PR-12-42 -- PSC Approves Electric Territorial Agreement

Contact: Kevin Kelly (573) 751-9300

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -- OCTOBER 19, 2011

JEFFERSON CITY—The Missouri Public Service Commission has approved a territorial agreement between Black River Electric Cooperative (Black River) and the City of Fredericktown (Fredericktown) which establishes the electric service areas for each in a portion of Madison County.  The territorial agreement does not require the transfer of any facilities or customers between Black River and Fredericktown.

According to the application, the territorial agreement is in the public interest because it will eliminate or reduce duplication of facilities, reduce the waste of resources and customer costs, and will allow Fredericktown and Black River, and their customers to know with certainty the supplier of their electric service.

On October 4, 2011, the PSC staff recommended, in a filing with the Commission, that the territorial agreement be approved.

“Based on its findings of fact and conclusions of law, the Commission determines that the submitted territorial agreement between Black River and Fredericktown is not detrimental to the public interest and shall be approved,” said the Commission.
