PR-12-18 -- Change In Fuel Adjustment Charge Approved For KCP&L Greater Operations Company

Contact: Kevin Kelly (573) 751-9300

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -- AUGUST 17, 2011

JEFFERSON CITY---To reflect changes in fuel and purchased power costs, the Missouri Public Service Commission has approved a request filed by KCP&L Greater Missouri Operations Company to adjust the fuel adjustment charge on electric customer bills.  The charge, which appears as a separate item on the monthly bill, is known as the fuel adjustment clause or FAC.

The FAC change reflects fuel and purchased power costs during the six month period December 2010 through May 2011.  The change also reflects the company’s annual fuel adjustment clause true-up for the period of March 2010 through February 2011.  The true-up reflected an overcollection of approximately $683,699 from customers in the MPS service area (Kansas City) and an overcollection of approximately $251,837 from customers in its L&P service area (St. Joseph).

For a typical residential customer in the area formerly served by Aquila Networks-MPS (Kansas City), monthly electric bills will drop by approximately $0.69.  For a typical residential customer in the area formerly served by Aquila Networks-L&P (St. Joseph), electric bills will increase by approximately $0.35 a month.  These changes will take effect on September 1, 2011.

KCP&L Greater Missouri Operations Company serves approximately 311,000 electric customers in Missouri.
