PR-11-37 -- PSC Approves Change To AmerenUE Electric Fuel And Purchased Power Adjustment Charge

Contact: Kevin Kelly (573) 751-9300

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -- SEPTEMBER, 16, 2010

JEFFERSON CITY---The Missouri Public Service Commission has approved a request filed by Union Electric Company d/b/a AmerenUE to adjust the fuel and purchased power adjustment charge (FAC) on the bills of its electric customers.  The Commission’s vote was 3-2.

In its filing, AmerenUE stated the proposed adjustment to customer rates reflected changes in its fuel and purchased power costs net of off-system sales revenues experienced during the four month period of February 2010 through May 2010.  AmerenUE stated the factors driving the increase were lower off-system energy sales revenue due to economic conditions and lower power prices.

Base electric rates set in the last AmerenUE rate case reflect a certain level of fuel and purchased power costs.  The FAC reflects increases or decreases in those costs above or below those set in base rates.  The FAC is designed to address fuel and purchase power cost volatility.

The adjustment will raise the Rider FAC Adjustment for a typical residential customer by approximately $2.37 a month.

The PSC staff filed a recommendation on August 23, 2010.  Staff verified that AmerenUE’s actual fuel and purchased power costs match those reflected in the company’s proposed tariff sheet.  Staff recommended the Commission approve the tariff sheet to be effective on its September 23, 2010 effective date.

AmerenUE serves approximately 1.2 million electric customers in Missouri.
