FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -- OCTOBER 5, 2010

JEFFERSON CITY---The Missouri Public Service Commission has established the deadline for those parties wishing to intervene and participate in an electric rate case filed by The Empire District Electric Company.

Applications to intervene and participate in the rate case must be filed no later than October 20, 2010, with the Secretary of the Missouri Public Service Commission, P.O. Box 360, Jefferson City, Missouri 65102-0360.

The Public Service Commission will hold local public hearings to receive customer comment on the rate request.  That schedule will be announced when dates, times and locations have been finalized.

On September 28, 2010, The Empire District Electric Company filed an electric rate case with the Public Service Commission seeking to increase annual electric operating revenues by approximately $36.5 million.  According to the company, if the request were approved in full, the electric bill for a residential customer using 1,000 kilowatt hours of electricity a month would increase by approximately $13.60 a month.

The Empire District Electric Company serves approximately 148,000 electric customers in the Missouri counties of Barry, Barton, Cedar, Christian, Dade, Dallas, Greene, Hickory, Jasper, Lawrence, McDonald, Newton, Polk, St. Clair, Stone and Taney.
