FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -- MAY 16, 2011
JEFFERSON CITY---The Missouri Public Service Commission will hold a discussion on Wednesday, May 18, 2011, to receive information from representatives of the Midwest ISO on its proposed Resource Adequacy tariff filing with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC).
The Midwest ISO asserts that the proposed tariff is designed to address system resources (such as generation and demand response programs) and costs in meeting the future energy needs of the region. The Midwest ISO asserts that its filing attempts to address issues such as the effects of congestion on the electric transmission grid, capacity requirements and reliability issues. What FERC ultimately approves could have an impact on future electric rates for some Missouri consumers.
Ameren Missouri and a number of municipal utilities in Missouri are members of the Midwest ISO.
The Commission’s discussion is scheduled from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. in Room 310 of the Governor Office Building, 200 Madison Street, in Jefferson City.
Established in 1998, the Midwest ISO is a regional transmission organization that monitors and coordinates the operation of an electric transmission system with more than 57,000 miles of transmission lines across 13 Midwestern states and the Canadian province of Manitoba.
The Organization of MISO states, of which Missouri is a member, is a non-profit self-governing organization of representatives from each state with regulatory jurisdiction over entities participating in the Midwest ISO.
