PR-10-200 -- PSC Approves AmerenUE Renewable Energy Project

Contact: Kevin Kelly (573) 751-9300

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -- MAY 13, 2010

JEFFERSON CITY---The Missouri Public Service Commission has approved a request filed by Union Electric Company d/b/a AmerenUE which sought Commission authority and a certificate of public convenience and necessity to construct, own and operate an electrical production facility and related facilities in or near the Village of Champ and the City of Maryland Heights.  The facility will be fueled with a renewable source of energy, landfill gas.

“The Commission is excited to see AmerenUE taking steps towards investing in Missouri renewable generation,” said PSC Chairman Robert M. Clayton III.  “We will be monitoring the project’s energy performance and its contribution to the AmerenUE system.”

AmerenUE’s application sought a certificate for a new electrical production facility to be built in the Village of Champ.  A substation will be built adjacent to the facility.  The proposed electrical production facility will consist of three gas-fired combustion turbine generator units.  AmerenUE stated the facility will be fueled with a renewable source of energy, specifically, landfill gas from the Fred Weber landfill.  The proposed electrical production facility and substation will be located on land adjacent to the landfill.

In a May 4, 2010 filing, the PSC staff recommended the application be approved.

Based upon a review of the AmerenUE application and the PSC staff recommendation, the Commission granted the request determining it is necessary or convenient for the public service.
