FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -- FEBRUARY 5, 2010
JEFFERSON CITY---To reflect changes in fuel and purchased power costs, the Missouri Public Service Commission has approved a request filed by KCP&L Greater Missouri Operations Company to adjust the fuel adjustment charge on electric customer bills. The charge, which appears as a separate item on the monthly bill, is known as the fuel adjustment clause or FAC.
The FAC change reflects fuel and purchased power costs during the six month period June 2009 through November 2009. The company cited natural gas costs, purchased power costs and coal and freight costs as reasons for seeking an adjustment to the FAC.
For a typical residential customer in the area formerly served by Aquila Networks-L&P (St. Joseph), electric bills will drop by approximately $1.80 a month.
For a typical residential customer in the area formerly served by Aquila Networks-MPS (Kansas City), monthly electric bills will increase by approximately $0.65. These changes will take effect on March 1, 2010.
On January 22, 2010, the PSC staff filed its recommendation indicating that KCP&L Greater Missouri Operations Company’s tariff complies with the Commission’s order that established the company’s FAC and with all applicable statutes and regulations. No party opposed the PSC staff recommendation, objected to the tariff, or requested a hearing.
KCP&L Greater Missouri Operations Company serves approximately 311,000 electric customers in Missouri.
