Contact: Kevin Kelly (573) 751-9300

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -- JANUARY 5, 2010

JEFFERSON CITY---KCP&L Greater Missouri Operations Company has filed a request with the Missouri Public Service Commission seeking to adjust the fuel adjustment charge (FAC) on the bills of its electric customers.

KCP&L Greater Missouri Operations Company seeks to adjust rates to reflect fuel and purchased power costs during the six month period June 2009 through November 2009.  The company cites natural gas costs, purchased power costs and coal and freight costs as reasons for seeking the FAC change.

According to the company, the requested change will increase a typical residential customer’s bill by approximately $0.65 a month for the area formerly served by Aquila Networks-MPS (Kansas City) and decrease a typical residential customer’s bill by approximately $1.80 a month in the area formerly served by Aquila Networks-L&P (St. Joseph).

Applications to intervene and participate in this case must be filed no later than January 13, 2010, with the Secretary of the Missouri Public Service Commission, P.O. Box 360, Jefferson City, Missouri 65102-0360.

KCP&L Greater Missouri Operations Company serves approximately 311,000 electric customers in Missouri.
