CONTACT: Kevin Kelly (573) 751-9300

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -- JULY 7, 2009

JEFFERSON CITY---KCP&L Greater Missouri Operations Company has filed a request with the Missouri Public Service Commission seeking to adjust the fuel adjustment charge (FAC) on the bills of its electric customers.

KCP&L Greater Missouri Operations Company seeks to adjust rates to reflect fuel and purchased power costs during the six month period December 2008 through May 2009. The company cites higher natural gas costs, higher purchased power costs and higher coal and freight costs as reasons for seeking the increase.

According to the company, the requested rate increase will increase a typical residential customer’s bill by approximately $1 per month for the area formerly served by Aquila Networks-L&P (St. Joseph) and by approximately $0.35 in the area formerly served by Aquila Networks-MPS (Kansas City).

Applications to intervene and participate in this case must be filed no later than July 22,, with the Secretary of the Missouri Public Service Commission, P.O. Box 360, Jefferson City,  Missouri 65102.

KCP&L Greater Missouri Operations Company serves approximately 308,000 electric customers in Missouri.
