PR-09-26 -- PSC Approves Change To Aquila Fuel Adjustment Charge

Contact: Kevin Kelly (573) 751-9300

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -- AUGUST 20, 2008

JEFFERSON CITY—To reflect changes in fuel and purchase power costs, the Missouri Public Service Commission has approved a request filed by Aquila, Inc. d/b/a KCP&L Greater Missouri Operations Company to adjust the fuel adjustment charge on electric customer bills.  The charge, which appears as a separate item on the monthly bill, is known as the fuel adjustment clause or FAC.  The commission’s vote was 4-1.

Electric bills for a residential customer using 1,000 kilowatts of power a month will increase by approximately $2.30 a month for customers in the MPS Division and by approximately $0.80 a month for customers in the L&P Division.  The change will take effect after September 1, 2008.

In its filing, KCP&L Greater Missouri Operations Company stated that since its last FAC-related adjustment (March 2008), fuel and purchased power costs have increased by approximately $14.4 million for the MPS Division and by approximately $1.8 million for the L&P Division.  Under the FAC approved by the commission in a May 2007 rate case, KCP&L Greater Missouri Operations Company will recover only 95 percent of those cost increases from its customers.

KCP&L Greater Missouri Operations Company provides electric service to approximately 235,500 customers in its MPS service area and to approximately 64,500 electric customers in its L&P service area.
