Contact: Kevin Kelly (573) 751-9300

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -- JANUARY 6, 2009

JEFFERSON CITY---KCP&L Greater Missouri Operations Company has filed a request with the Missouri Public Service Commission seeking to adjust the fuel adjustment charge (FAC) on the bills of its electric customers.

KCP&L Greater Missouri Operations Company seeks to adjust rates to reflect fuel and purchased power costs during the six month period of June 2008 through November 2008.  The company cites higher purchased power costs, higher natural gas costs and higher coal and freight costs as reasons for seeking the increase.

KCP&L Greater Missouri Operations Company is seeking an increase of approximately $6.1 million for the area formerly served by Aquila Networks-L&P and an increase of approximately $17.8 million for the area formerly served by Aquila Networks-MPS.  KCP&L Greater Missouri Operations Company says a typical residential customer’s bill would increase by about $1.00 per month under the request.

Applications to intervene and participate in this case must be filed no later than January 20, 2009, with the Secretary of the Missouri Public Service Commission, P.O. Box 360, Jefferson City, Missouri 65102.  Copies of the application should be sent to: Curtis D. Blanc, Legal Counsel, and Tim M. Rush, Director Regulatory Affairs, Kansas City Power & Light Company, 1201 Walnut, 13th Floor, Kansas City, Missouri 64106; and the Office of the Public Counsel, P.O. Box 2230, Jefferson City, Missouri 65102-2230.

The Office of the Public Counsel is a separate state agency that represents the general public in matters before the commission.  Individual citizens wishing to comment should contact either the Office of the Public Counsel (Governor Office Building, 200 Madison Street, Suite 650, P.O. Box 2230, Jefferson City, Missouri 65102-2230, telephone (866) 922-2959, e-mail opcservice@ded.mo.gov) or the Public Service Commission staff (P.O. Box 360, Jefferson City, Missouri 65102, telephone 1-800-392-4211, e-mail pscinfo@psc.mo.gov).

KCP&L Greater Missouri Operations Company provides electric service to approximately 242,000 customers in the area formerly served by Aquila Networks-MPS and to approximately 66,000 electric customers in the area formerly served by Aquila Networks-L&P.
