FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -- FEBRUARY 4, 2011

JEFFERSON CITY—The Missouri Public Service Commission has approved an application filed by KCP&L Greater Missouri Operations Company which sought Commission authority and a certificate of public convenience and necessity to construct and operate an electrical production facility and related facilities near St. Joseph, Missouri.

KCP&L Greater Missouri Operations Company sought the certificate for a new electrical production facility to be built near St. Joseph, which will be fueled with a renewable source of energy, specifically, landfill gas from the City of St. Joseph landfill.  The proposed electric production facility will be located on a tract of land adjacent to the landfill.

In a January 14, 2011 filing, the PSC staff recommended the application be approved.  The application also has support from the City of St. Joseph, Buchanan County and the Missouri Department of Natural Resources.

Based upon a review of the information filed in the case, the Commission approved the application.

KCP&L Greater Missouri Operations Company serves approximately 308,000 electric customers in Missouri.
