MEDIA REMINDER -- PSC To Hold Local Public Hearings In Poplar Bluff and Dexter

JEFFERSON CITY---The Missouri Public Service Commission will hold local public hearings in Poplar Bluff on October 29, 2012 and in Dexter on October 30, 2012, in rate cases filed by Lakeland Heights Water Company, Oakbrier Water Company and R.D. Sewer Company. The local public hearing schedule appears below.
  • October 29—Poplar Bluff. Room 203, 200 E.K. Porter Building, Three Rivers Community College, 2080 Three Rivers Boulevard. A PSC Staff public information/question and answer session is scheduled to begin 5:30 p.m. with the local public hearing scheduled to start at 6:00 p.m. The local public hearing will continue until everyone who wishes to testify has done so.
  • October 30—Dexter. Bootheel Regional Planning Commission, Old Armory, 105 East North Main Street. A PSC Staff public information/question and answer session is scheduled to begin 11:30 a.m. with the local public hearing scheduled to start at 12:00 p.m. The local public hearing will continue until everyone who wishes to testify has done so.
These local public hearings will be held in facilities that meet the accessibility requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act. On January 31, 2012, R.D. Sewer Company, Lakeland Heights Water Company and Oakbrier Water Company filed rate cases with the Public Service Commission. R.D. Sewer Company sought to increase annual sewer operating revenues by approximately $10,380. Lakeland Heights Water Company filed a rate case seeking to increase annual water operating revenues by approximately $3,960 and Oakbrier Water Company filed a rate case seeking to increase annual water operating revenues by approximately $2,160.

Under the small company rate case process, the Public Service Commission Staff audited the books and records of R.D. Sewer Company, Lakeland Heights Water Company and Oakbrier Water Company. After the audit, the Public Service Commission Staff and the utilities met to discuss the audit. Based upon those discussions, the Public Service Commission Staff, R.D. Sewer Company, Lakeland Heights Water Company and Oakbrier Water Company reached an agreement in each rate case.
Under the agreements, annual sewer operating revenues for R.D. Sewer Company would increase by approximately $15,771. Annual water operating revenues for the Lakeland Heights Water Company would increase by approximately $6,582 and annual water operating revenues for Oakbrier Water Company would increase by approximately $1,307 under agreements reached between each company and the Public Service Commission Staff.
The Office of the Public Counsel has not joined in the agreements and requested the Public Service Commission hold local public hearings. The Office of the Public Counsel is a separate state agency which represents the general public in rate cases before the Public Service Commission.

Current monthly rates for residential customers and those proposed under an agreement reached between the Public Service Commission Staff and each utility company appears below. Water rates are based on a residential customer using 6,000 gallons of water a month.

* This is an agreement between the Public Service Commission Staff and the utility company. The five-member Commission decides all cases before it. The Commission has not decided any of these cases.

R.D. Sewer Company provides sewer service to approximately 173 customers in Stoddard County near Dexter, Missouri. The Lakeland Heights Water Company serves approximately 113 water customers in Butler and Wayne counties and the Oakbrier Water Company serves approximately 60 water customers in Butler County. Lakeland Heights and Oakbrier provide water service near Poplar Bluff, Missouri.
