MEDIA ADVISORY: PSC To Hold Local Public Hearing In Branson On Emerald Pointe Utility Rate Cases

JEFFERSON CITY---The Missouri Public Service Commission will hold a local public hearing in Branson on April 17, 2013, to receive customer comment on water and sewer rate cases filed by Emerald Pointe Utility Company.  The local public hearing schedule appears below.
April 17, 2013—Branson.  Branson City Hall, City Council Chambers, 110 Maddux Street.  A PSC staff public information/question and answer session starts at 6:00 p.m. with the taking of sworn testimony to follow.
This local public hearing will be held in a facility that meets the requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act.  Any person needing additional accommodations to participate in the hearing should call the Public Service Commission’s Hotline at 1-800-392-4211 or Relay Missouri at 711 before the hearing.
On July 16, 2012, Emerald Pointe Utility Company filed water and sewer rate cases with the Missouri Public Service Commission.  The utility company sought to increase annual sewer operating revenues by approximately $186,000 and annual water operating revenues by approximately $13,000.
Under the small rate case process, the PSC Staff audits the books and records of the company.  After the audit, the PSC Staff presents its findings as well as its initial recommendation for resolution of the rate requests to the Office of the Public Counsel and the company.  Based upon discussions between the company, the Office of the Public Counsel and the PSC Staff, the PSC Staff and Emerald Pointe Utility Company have reached a partial resolution of the rate cases.  The Office of the Public Counsel has not joined in the partial agreement.
Under the partial agreement, annual sewer operating revenues would increase by approximately $226,577 and annual water operating revenues would decrease by approximately $51,928.  There remain unresolved issues in the rate cases which could have an impact on the final numbers.  The Commission is scheduled to hear those unresolved issues during formal evidentiary hearings in Jefferson City on May 9-10, 2013.
For a residential customer using approximately 5,500 gallons of water a month, the partial agreement would reduce the monthly water bill from $18.77 to $12.01.  Under the partial agreement, sewer bills would increase from $13.63 a month to $54.55 a month.
Emerald Pointe Utility Company serves approximately 380 water and sewer customers in Taney County near Hollister, Missouri.
