PSC Decides Lake Region Water and Sewer Company Rate Cases

JEFFERSON CITY---Water and sewer customers of the Lake Region Water & Sewer Company (Lake Region) will see a change in their rates under a decision from the Missouri Public Service Commission.  The Commission has granted an overall increase of approximately $54,055 in the annual water and sewer operating revenues of the company to reflect changes in the cost of providing service to customers.  The new rates are expected to take effect in June.
When the company filed its rate request with the Missouri Public Service Commission on July 16, 2013, it sought to increase annual water and sewer operating revenues by approximately $218,762.
Under the decision, water customers in the Shawnee Bend service area will see an increase in rates while sewer customers in that service area will see a rate reduction.  There will be an increase in sewer rates for customers in the Horseshoe Bend service area under the Commission’s decision.
For a Shawnee Bend residential water customer using 6,000 gallons of water a month, the current water bill is $20.46 a month.  The water bill will increase to $23.30 a month.  The current flat rate sewer bill for a Shawnee Bend single family residential customer is $36.19 a month.  The monthly sewer bill will drop to $32.19 a month.  The current flat rate sewer bill for a Horseshoe Bend single family residential customer is $29.39 a month.  The monthly sewer bill will increase to $33.08 a month.
“The revenue increase approved by the Commission is concluded to be no more than what is sufficient to keep Lake Region’s utility plants in proper repair for effective public service and provide to Lake Region’s investors an opportunity to earn a reasonable return upon funds invested,” said the Commission.
Lake Region Water & Sewer Company serves approximately 658 water and 635 sewer customers in an area of the Lake of the Ozarks known as Shawnee Bend.  The company also provides sewer service to approximately 245 customers in Horseshoe Bend.
