PSC Approves Water And Sewer System Sale
JEFFERSON CITY---The Missouri Public Service Commission has approved an application which authorizes the sale of substantially all of the water and sewer system assets of Emerald Pointe Utility Company (Emerald Pointe) to the Missouri-American Water Company (MAWC).
On January 24, 2014, the PSC Staff filed a memorandum recommending approval of the transfer of assets, subject to certain conditions. On February 6, 2014, the Office of the Public Counsel, a separate state agency which represents the general public in matters before the PSC, filed a response to the PSC Staff recommendation. The Office of the Public Counsel indicated that it did not oppose Staff’s recommendation that the Commission approve the joint application subject to the conditions described in the PSC Staff memorandum. MAWC also affirmatively agreed to all of the PSC Staff’s proposed conditions.
Based upon a review of the information filed in the case, the Commission has approved the application noting that it is in the public interest for MAWC to provide water and sewer service to customers currently being served by Emerald Pointe.
MAWC provides service to approximately 454,000 water customers and approximately 4,000 sewer customers in Missouri. Emerald Pointe serves approximately 389 water customers and 364 sewer customers in Taney County near Hollister, Missouri.
