New Water and Sewer Rates for Lincoln County Sewer & Water Customers to Take Effect This Month

JEFFERSON CITY---The Missouri Public Service Commission has approved tariffs which reflect the Commission’s decisions in water and sewer rate cases filed by Lincoln County Sewer & Water, LLC. Based upon a thorough review of the record in the cases, the Commission has determined that Lincoln County Sewer & Water, LLC should be authorized to increase annual water operating revenues by approximately $17,998 and annual sewer operating revenues by approximately $9,428 for service provided on and after August 19, 2014. The rate increases are designed to recover the company’s cost of service.
When Lincoln County Sewer and Water, LLC filed its rate requests with the Commission on December 4, 2012, it sought to increase annual sewer operating revenues by approximately $13,382 and annual water operating revenues by approximately $7,569. The company stated it was seeking the rate increases to cover increases in expenses and investments in company facilities. The company pointed out the rate increase was primarily driven by the installation of new, automated meters and associated costs.
As part of its decision, the Commission approved costs associated with the installation of new, automated meters and associated costs. The Commission noted the benefits of having automated meters, including the capability to record water usage on a daily or hourly basis. The Commission also noted that automated meters will allow the operator to retrieve information on usage and leaks over periods of time spanning from one to several days to a whole billing period. “Automated meters,” said the Commission, “will allow the company to monitor usage much closer than will standard meters and will therefore afford the company an opportunity to address wasteful consumption.”
