PSC Approves Missouri Gas Energy Request
JEFFERSON CITY---The Missouri Public Service Commission has approved an application filed by Southern Union Company d/b/a Missouri Gas Energy (MGE) seeking Commission authority to construct and maintain a natural gas system to provide service in Newton County near Neosho. According to the application this would be an expansion of MGE’s existing certificated area in Newton County.
On June 7, 2013, the Public Service Commission Staff filed a recommendation to approve the application and grant the company a certificate of convenience and necessity.
In support of its recommendation, the PSC staff noted the following: 1) That MGE is willing and able to provide the requested service under existing tariff provisions; 2) Extending gas service would not jeopardize natural gas service to the company’s existing customers; 3) No interveners have objected to the certificate request; 4) MGE anticipates using customary state highway, railroad, and county rights of way; 5) The requested service area is expected to develop a new customer; and 6) No new franchises are required.
Based upon a thorough review of the information filed in the case, the Public Service Commission granted MGE’s request.
MGE provides natural gas service to approximately 500,000 customers in Missouri.
